turnip Posted June 11, 2006 Report Posted June 11, 2006 I have a 53 plate sharan 1.9Tdi. The middle button on the air con between air con and recycle is for the back vent. Is the air that comes out of that vent meant to be air conditioned? The garage say no but I think it used to be cooled air - now most definately not. (the temp dial for that vent is on cold) The air con in general is pretty poor and doesn't keep the car cool. Do you all find it bad? - I know there are general probs with the air con. Don't know whether to take back to the garage and insist they do something or whether the air con struggles to keep this size of vehicle cool. Thanks Mrs Turnip - who hates to bake! chromedome Posted June 12, 2006 Report Posted June 12, 2006 You only have rear air conditioning if you have vents in the roof above the second and third row of seats. Quote
Bigjeeze Posted June 12, 2006 Report Posted June 12, 2006 But I believe you should get cool air from the rear blowers - not AC but at least cool. Quote

(the temp dial for that vent is on cold) Turnip,I recall that this button controls the fan unit located over the N/S rear wheel arch i.e. for the third row of seats. This unit can be heated, independently of the front and contolled by the dial over the N/S centre pillar, as it has a seperate matrix and coolant feed. However as it does not have air feed from the air con unit in the engine compartment then air blown from it cannot be cooled. You can however get an 'air con cooled' air feed to the second row of seats via the floor level central air feed which is controlled by the front fans with air distribution control pointed to feet. The air con in general is pretty poor and doesn't keep the car cool. Do you all find it bad? - I know there are general probs with the air con. Don't know whether to take back to the garage and insist they do something or whether the air con struggles to keep this size of vehicle cool. If you're not getting cold air with your air con switched on in warm outside temperatures then the air con circuit may need to be re-gassed. Do a search as this topic has been covered before and also comparative tests, I recall, between outside temperatures and temps at the vents. Hope this helps,Jeff. Quote

turnip Posted June 12, 2006 Author Report Posted June 12, 2006 Thanks NikPV Found the chart. Very useful!! Printed out and armed with it, to take to the VW dealership in Cardiff. Will let people know how they respond. Cheers  Quote
zeplin43 Posted June 12, 2006 Report Posted June 12, 2006 No cold air from the back the ac is only on the front and behind front seats on the floor.Only cold air to the back on cars with double ac on top as someone mentioned. But if the ac is working properly you should get the car with aceptable cool temperature. Have your ac diagnosed at someone that is sepecilized on the ac. Fraud dealers normaly dont have very good service on ac. Quote
